What is EMDR?

An integrated therapy approach to treat trauma & various psychological conditions.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma.

EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. This treatment approach, which targets past experience, current triggers, and future potential challenges, results in the alleviation of presenting symptoms, a decrease or elimination of distress from the disturbing memory, improved view of the self, relief from bodily disturbance, and resolution of present and future anticipated triggers.

To date, EMDR therapy has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress.

What problems can EMDR treat?

Scientific research has established EMDR as effective for post traumatic stress.  However, clinicians also have reported success using EMDR in treatment of the following conditions:

  • Eating disorders, Body dysmorphic disorders

  • Anxiety & Panic attacks

  • Sexual and/or Physical abuse

  • Complicated grief

  • Dissociative disorders

  • Disturbing memories

How do I know if EMDR is right for me?

I have the training to assess whether or not EMDR is the right approach for your situation and current functioning.  In the preparation phase of EMDR, we focus on stabilization to ensure you are physically and emotionally prepared for trauma counselling.  I create a safe space for trauma processing and holistic healing to occur.
